Schedule Board

The Schedule Board (Board) was revised in 2022 to be lighter weight and smaller in size, and without the finished pouch. The Board supports independence for students with and without disabilities across their school day by providing a predictable tactile and/or visual representation of their daily activities. Boards may be used for an individual student, whole-class schedule, or home use. In addition to providing predictability, the Board is flexible enough to allow support from the preschool years through adulthood. Boards are lightweight, durable, have rounded corners for safety, and can be personalized for individual student needs. Boards may be mounted vertically, horizontally, or leaned against a wall and include several strips of hook and loop fasteners.

Individualized representations (such as objects, pictures, icons, words, or a combination) and a finished basket are needed to complete the Board and should be based on what is most meaningful and understood by the student. For example, if the schedule indicates that it is time for math, one student may require the use of an actual coin or clock that is adhered to the Board, another student may need a photograph of real money or a clock. A third student may benefit from the use of a line drawing of either, and a fourth student may need only the word “math”. The possibilities are endless and are left to the expertise of the teacher and the individual needs and abilities of the student. As for a “finished” basket a small basket, bowl, box, etc. could be used to place the representations in indicating the task is finished.
